Demonic Haunts: An Introduction
All the major religions of the world believe in some form of evil entity that desires nothing more than lead the hapless human soul down a path of destruction and eternal damnation. Christianity of course has Satan, a personification of pure evil who was once God’s most favored angel but fell out of that favor when he rebelled against God and attempted to stage a coup where he planned to set himself up as the most high and ruler of the universe. As we all know God did not take to kindly to this angelic upstart and took away Satan’s glory and cast him out of heaven. The Jewish texts speak of “The terror which comes at night.” This terror is most likely some kind of evil entity much like the Christian concept of satan. In Buddhism as Buddha sat under the Bodhi tree to receive enlightment he was attacked day and night by demonic entities who slung arrows and evil thoughts into his head. And Islam has Shaitan, an evil entity much like Satan in the Christian and Jewish tradition.
Perhaps you grew up in one of these religious traditions and are more familiar with these wicked beings that seek the destruction of the human soul. Personally, I am not a religious person however I do not deny fact that their must be some negative aspect of the universe that can lead a person down a path to destruction. Look at the world around us and try to tell me that there is no such thing as evil. People killing others over that coveted christmas toy, husbands abusing their wives, shootings are on the rise, kids killing kids it really is enough to make you wonder, “What the hell is going on?” But a personification of evil is another question entirely.
In the annals of paranormal research and investigation there have been numerous case studies where a person or a family have felt that they were under attack by some malicious spirit activity that went above and beyond the norm of haunting phenomenon. Those who have experienced such a haunting have said that the activity started out innocently enough and seemed almost like the most common of hauntings a poltergeist. However as the activity progressed it took on a much darker more malevolent personality. Folks have claimed that the demon physically rapes them as they sleep, a terrible odor that smells like garbage and rotting flesh fills their home. Some have also claimed that religious articles such as bibles and crosses become a target for the evil entity when they find a bible or other holy book ripped apart and crucifixes turned upside down and destroyed. A demonic haunt, although extremely rare can be a truly terrifying experience.
If we can attribute this phenomenon to satan and his minions, what are their intentions and why bother with screwing with some unknown family in any town USA or the world for that matter? When it comes to a demonic haunt the activity seems to follow a pattern and believe it or not their are phases of activity. Step one is usually called Infestation. In this step this is when the demon who has either resided at a location or is floating along and thinks to itself, “Yep, I’m gonna screw with these people.” Moves in and begins it’s reign of terror. During this phase the activity may seem like minor poltergeist activity, things moving around, articles being hidden and perhaps the occassional tap on the wall. Nothing to dangerous or terrifying, right.
Step two is where things begin to get a little out of hand and the horror is ratcheted up a few notches, this step is called obsession. In the obsession stage the demon begins to show itself for what it really is, not just some innocent little spook who floats around your house but rather an evil entity who desires to completely take over and make you and yours his personal bitch. During this phase of the activity, folks who experience a demonic haunt have claimed to be kept up until all hours of the night by heavy poundings on the wall, others have claimed that the spirit releases an odor that reeks of garbage or dead flesh. Others have claimed to witness terrifying apparitions and to have been either attacked or sexually assaulted by the entity. It would seem that the entities intentions are to more or less ware a person down for the next phase of the haunting. Possession.
Since the release of “The Exorcist” in the mid 1970s, Americans have become familiar with the idea of a demon inhabiting a human being and bending their will to their own. In the third phase of the demonic haunt the entity actually takes possession of a human host, sets up shop and uses that person to carry out their wicked will. If the demon is not expelled by a person trained in dealing with possession such as a priest or Rabbi eventually that person will succumb to the fourth and final stage, Death.
In this new series I wanted to take a look at some of the case studies that would appear to have a more diabolical flare and what the people who experienced the phenomenon did to rid themselves of the demonic entity. As I always say I appeal to your sense of objectivity, intelligense and of course open mindedness concerning this subject because although demonic haunts are extremely rare they are also the most controversial to paranormal researchers. So I hope you enjoy and I will be back soon with the first case study. Thank you.
