Demonic Possession & Exorcism

In a simpler manner, “Demonic Possession” means the actual control that a demon can have over a human. Many persons who have confronted themselves with a demonic possession (or so they claim to have been), are describing this experience as being terrifying. They claimed that they were losing control, not just of their body and mind, but also of their soul. Their memories and personalities were erased or temporarily disappeared. Convulsions and fainting are also something usual when dealing with all kinds of demonic possession.

Many cultures of ancient civilizations are containing information about demonic possessions. The Greek, Roman and Sumerian cultures were convinced that demons not only exist, but also can interact and possess from plants, animals, to inanimate objects and even living or deceased people.

Even in the Holly Bible, more exactly in the Old Testament we can find some paragraphs and stories with demonic possessions or channeling in order to cure mental illnesses. There are numerous reports in the Bible in which Jesus Christ was driving demons out from the unfortunate people, and by thus curing them from any diseases they were once having.

The Catholic Church is confirming demonic possession & oppression, after it is distinguished from all the mental illnesses. Due to this, catholic exorcisms can be made in the presence and authority of a prepared bishop. Baptism is also a form of exorcism, created and developed in order to convert “to the right path”.

Exorcism has also become part of our universal culture. The 1973 movie “The Exorcist”, which was based on the book with the same name, transformed demonic possession and exorcism in wide spread terms.

In conclusion, we must admit the fact that we can all communicate with the divinity, as long as with demons. It tends more to be something like an option, but it cannot be affirmed that it is impossible. It can be said that it is a matter of perspective. As many scholars have said in the past, when a man communicates with God, the action is called ‘Pray”, and when God is communicating with the human, it is called “Schizophrenia”.
