The Second Investigation

Written by: C. W. Oberg - Posted in: Ghosts, Paranormal Producer

Hello all, I apologize for the long delay in my posts. We’ve had some new developments on the film that have taken up a lot of my time. So bare with me I’ll try to catch up, now back to our regularly scheduled program….

I guess I assumed that a Paranormal Team that has been together for 5 years have probably been to about every haunted location in the area. So, I wasn’t anticipating filming every weekend, but here we are, week number 2 and about to embark on investigation number 2.

This particular location was a residential home in rural Enumclaw Washington. The family living there have reported multiple paranormal events within the house. It seems that they had a not so nice entity that has taken up residence in the upstairs bedroom. Since that is the bedroom of one of their children, the need to call in the professionals was evident.

My team and I took the long drive from Seattle to Enumclaw to meet the Investigators at a local coffee shop. We pulled up in to the parking lot and met the founder of the team on the sidewalk. We exchanged pleasantries and he told me that there were a couple of more people that we were waiting for. While waiting we started talking about the film. At first when I approached him about doing the film it almost seemed like he was apprehensive, which is understandable. These days Documentary Filmmakers have gotten a bad wrap due to some of us that skew the films to fulfill personal agendas. But after several conversations and a shoot completed he seems to have warmed up to the idea. In fact he even told me about a intro to the film that he has been thinking about. It’s nice to see the subject of the film start to get as excited about the project as I am. But I’m getting sidetracked.

We arrived at a modest house in a very quiet neighborhood. After unloading the equipment I introduced myself to the family and we headed in to the master bedroom to do a quick interview. It seems the wife has had most of the experiences in the household but every member of the family has experienced paranormal events. Though their experiences have been throughout the entire house, it seems that most of the activity has taken place in the upstairs bedroom.

The Ghost Hunters and my team headed up there and in the dark attempted to make contact. The Investigators brought out a tool that I have never seen before. They call it a PK Board and it looks like a sundial. Basically it works the same as a Ouiji board but requires no human interaction.

While working upstairs a few odd things did happen. It seems that whatever was up there kept messing with equipment. A few of the Investigators cameras started to malfunction and batteries were being quickly drained. A member of my team was taking pictures and every time she snapped a picture of the stairs leading in to the upstairs bedroom the camera would malfunction. But if she turned slightly and took a picture of anything else, the camera would work fine.

The investigation itself turned out to be pretty rewarding. Though we didn’t see any full body apparitions I am beginning to see the mindset of the investigators. I’m starting to understand what drives them to keep going out time and time again looking for proof of ghosts. Though actual ghostly experiences are fun, simply getting in to the head of a Paranormal Investigator has proven to be fascinating.

As we were wrapping up, I got to talking to the head of the Investigators and he told me about a future investigation that would change my opinion on the Paranormal forever. It seems that a trip to the infamous Stanley Hotel was to be in my future.

Stay tuned…

Let the Hunt Begin

Written by: C. W. Oberg - Posted in: Ghosts, Paranormal Producer

The sun was beginning to set over downtown as we arrived in the ‘Bell Town’ area of Seattle. We were scheduled to meet the Ghost Hunters across the street from our very first haunted location. Since the anticipation was to much for me to handle, my Producer and I decided to get there a little earlier than planned.

We circled the block a few times and finally found a parking space on the street. After a short walk we came upon the location. It was an older ominous looking building on the corner of the block. Impressed by the feel from the building I snapped a quick picture.

Charles Gate Apartments

One by one the team started showing up. Some members I recognized from our previous meeting, others I got to meet for the first time. But, my previous realization about Paranormal Investigators still rang true. So far, they have all been normal, everyday people.

Once the entire team was assembled we made our way inside of the building. We were greeted by the Building Manager and after a quick round of introductions he led us to the back stairwell, down the stairs, and in to the basement. We walked through a door and down a short hallway finally emerging in the boiler room.

If I could have chosen the location for the first shoot, this would have been it. It was dark and dusty, with old machinery humming away. It looked straight out of a horror movie. So I decided to use this room to conduct the interview with the building manager.

According to him in the early 1900’s the boiler was run by coal. One afternoon there was a group of children playing in the basement as a woman kept watch over them. Without warning the boiler exploded. The explosion was heard throughout the building which alerted the brother of the woman and he ran down to the basement. Ignoring his own safety he rushed in to the boiler room and tried to save the kids and his sister. But it was to late, they were gone. Wounded badly by the fire, the man made his way back to his second floor apartment where he passed away from his injuries.

Ever since this incident there have been multiple reports of paranormal activity in the basement as well as on the second floor. It seems that the children are still in the basement playing as the woman watches over them. It is also believed that the man still roams the second floor looking for his lost sister.

The team began their investigation shortly after the interview concluded. Using their vast selection of equipment they attempted to detect and make contact with the spirits. The entire building was searched from top to bottom and we had a few ‘interesting’ experiences along the way.

I’m going to refrain from using to much detail about this investigation as it appears in the film. But overall it made for a very good introduction in to ghost hunting. I’m beginning to understand the mentality behind chasing ghosts. It wasn’t until a following investigation that I became a true believer.

But we’ll talk about that at a later date.

It started with an email…

Written by: C. W. Oberg - Posted in: Ghosts, Paranormal Producer

As with most things, it started innocently enough. After a few weeks of research in to the world of the Paranormal, I identified a local team that seemed to be the most organized. So I sent them an email. I basically outlined the concept for the Documentary and asked if they would like to participate.

To my astonishment I got a quick reply. Maybe a day later. It was from the Founder and President of A.G.H.O.S.T. (Advanced Ghost Hunters of Seattle Tacoma). He seemed pretty interested in the project and wanted to arrange a meeting.

I must admit I was a little nervous about this. What type of person becomes a Ghost Hunter? I had visions of people dressed in all black, studying magic, Satanic Worshipers, etc. I am not one to prejudge people but in all honesty I had absolutely no idea what to expect.

On my long drive from Seattle to Tacoma I prepared myself for the worst. There was no telling what type of people I was about to become associated with. Following the directions given to me I found my way to a house in a quiet Tacoma neighborhood. I parked on the street and made my way to the front door.

I was greeted by a very nice guy at the front of the house and he invited me in. He seemed very normal but we were still waiting for a few other of his members to arrive. I thought to myself, “Here we go, let’s see what I am in store for.”

One by one A.G.H.O.S.T. members started arriving at the house. Though each member was pretty different from one another I began to realize that these people were just like everyone else. My preconceived notions about Paranormal Enthusiasts were proven ridiculous.

Members of the team ran the gamut from professional business people to housewives. In another world they may never have crossed paths but because of a common interest in the Paranormal they became forever linked, not to mention close friends.

I was introduced to everyone and we sat down in the living room and began to speak about the project. My one concern going in to this meeting was to avoid filming a team that was just looking to become the next famous Paranormal Investigators. The Sci Fi Channel can only handle so many ghost shows, and the one they currently have will not soon be taken over by an independent production from Seattle.

I explained this concept to them and stated that I wanted to tell their story. You can find any number of great films or shows that take you ghost hunting. But it seems nobody has really told the story of the ghost hunters themselves. I would love to give the world the same brash realization that I just had. Ghost Hunters are people to! They have jobs, kids, lives, and aren’t just obsessed with death and the afterlife.

Now excited about the project I got the go ahead by the team and the rest is history. Within 2 weeks, I would be on my first Investigation. But we’ll go in to that next week.

Pardon the Introduction

Written by: C. W. Oberg - Posted in: Ghosts, Paranormal Producer

Little did I know that about a year ago while searching for a Documentary concept I would start down a road that would change my life forever. It’s strange, a simple film idea that came out of a late night brain storming session with my business partner would alter our lives more than either of us could have anticipated.

But I am getting a little ahead of myself. First lets get the introductions out of the way. My name is C. W. Oberg and I am an Independent Filmmaker from Seattle, Washington. I was trained in the art of film at the Vancouver Film School in beautiful Vancouver Canada. Since graduating I have moved back to Seattle where I started my company, Seventh Entity Productions.

The purpose of this section, Paranormal Producer, is to document a Filmmakers journey into the world of the Paranormal. Teaming with some of the Pacific Northwests premiere Paranormal Investigators, my team has witnessed events that cannot readily be explained by conventional means. Here we will share our stories and take you along on the production of the Documentary that has changed the lives of all who have been involved with its creation.

I will be updating this section on a regular basis, once or twice a week, so keep checking back for updates.
