The three day conference will include a meet and greet, costume party and auction with a portion of the proceeds going to the Wyoming County SPCA. Special Guest Speakers will include: Bill Murphy, of the Sy-Fy Channel’s series ‘Fact or Faked – Paranormal Files’, along with Frank Sumption (inventor of the Frank’s Box), Gary Galka (inventor of the Mel Meter and RT EVP machine and a host of other devices), Theologian, author, illustrator, researcher & investigator, Tarot consultant, Editor-In-Chief of TAPS ParaMag Scotty Roberts, Psychic Medium Glenn White, Co-author of ‘Haunted Buffalo’ Cassidy O’Connor, and Michael Rambacher, expert on the Hinsdale House case, plus additional speakers and vendors!

The Pride House, located in “the most haunted town in Texas”, live investigation
JEFFERSON, TX, Aug. 21, 2010 — Some people might be a little frightened by claims of disembodied voices, or strange sounds in the night, but the investigators with Southern Paranormal Investigations (www.spi-texas.org) jump at the chance to spend the night in haunted locations. On Saturday evening, August 21, 2010, they will get that chance as they team together with Upsher Paranormal Society to conduct a live investigation of The Pride House, Texas’ first known bed and breakfast, located in Jefferson, TX.

The Pride House is an ornate two-story Victorian home built in 1888 by lumberman George Washington Brown, and later purchased by John Griffin Bender. It was named Pride House after the son of the third family to own the home. Many of the family members who have lived in this home seem to have loved it so much that they have decided to stay, as there are many claims of paranormal activity in the home. Several paranormal groups have experienced unexplained phenomena ranging from sounds and voices to photo anomalies. Many audio recordings taken inside the home have revealed sounds and voices not heard by those present at the time.

On August 21, 2010, Southern Paranormal Investigations will bring you the investigation of this magnificent, historic home live and give you the opportunity to become part of the investigation. FAIRFIELD, TX, JUNE 26, 2010: Southern Paranormal Investigations (Houston, TX) is teaming up with Wide Awake Paranormal to investigate claims of paranormal activity in the Freestone County Historical Museum located in Fairfield, TX. This investigation will be broadcast live to the public via The White Noise Paranormal Network and the People’s TV Network on the show Saturday Night Paranormal, hosted by Ian Hickin. This special edition will feature a double header investigation, as two locations in separate states are investigated live simultaneously. The Freestone County Historical Museum is located in the charming Central East Texas town of Fairfield, a crossroads for highway I-45, highway 75 & highway 84.

We are the County Seat and as such, have always been the center for law enforcement and incarceration for the area.
The museum is located one block off the historic courthouse square and encompasses the former 1850′s County Jail and the surrounding block which was the location for the pauper’s area or poor farm, according to Sanborn maps from the time period.

The museum was organized in 1967 and was originally housed in the jail until a new state of the art building was donated (The Bass Wing) and constructed in 2007. The complex is also home to two 1840′s log cabins and a depression era church (known as the Bootlegger’s church). We also have a few outdoor exhibits and a beautiful rhinestone encrusted Cadillac (one of the most recognized Art Cars) in the United States.

The County was famous for its ‘lawless’ period and possibly the reason why four different jails were built within a few years of each other, each time increasing in size and fortification. Freestone County was famous for one thing for many years, and that was moonshine. The County is commonly referred to as the epicenter for bootlegging in Texas. The New York Times in 1922 ran an article about martial law that was declared here and in surrounding areas, the Calvary, revenue agents and Texas Rangers were sent in to round up all the lawbreakers. The law was intent on shutting down The Winter Garden and The Chicken Farm, two of the largest saloons and gambling houses in Texas (both located on the Freestone County line).The siege lasted for 41 days and was led by none other than Frank Hamer (the man who would later ambush Bonnie & Clyde).

Stories of paranormal activity have been recounted since the turn of the century in regards to the jail and some of the other museum structures.
To date we have verified four legal hangings (although we have been told of possible lynchings and other illegal hangings possibly took place here on the property or nearby), a sheriff’s murder by horse thieves in the 1870′s, a horrible inmate fight and bludgeoning in 1888, several natural deaths in the infirmary and of residents (in 1913 the old jail was converted to a private residence and then a boarding house). One of the cabins witnessed much tragedy, including the burning death of a young mother when she miscarried and fell into a cooking fire.

In 2010, the museum began allowing paranormal teams to bring in equipment and conduct investigations. The museum has hosted several groups including members from TEXPART South, Wide Awake Paranormal, S.P.I.R.I.T. Austin and Mystic Paranormal. Several investigations have been filmed for public release by Jackson Burns (Adventures to the Unexplained), Mike Roberts (Research: Paranormal), Charli Smith (Reporter Chicks), Bill Pappin (Haunted Destinations Texas).

The different investigations have captured possible paranormal activity such as ; Class A EVPs, disembodied voices, photo and video anomalies, possible apparitions appearing in digital photographs, object manipulation, energy disturbances, EMF, K2 and Mel meter manipulation.
Several investigators from various teams have seen a shadow figure on the grounds and have given chase. This elusive figure has yet to be captured on film.

The West Coast’s premiere skeptical investigations team has inquired about psychics, dowsers, wacky medical claims, telepaths, UFOs, and ghost stories for a decade. On August 21st at the Steve Allen Theater in Hollywood, they’ll celebrate their achievements with a gala party and an awards ceremony to honor those who contribute to science and skepticism in the media.

The IIG was founded in January of 2000 by James Underdown, Executive Director of the Center for Inquiry-Los Angeles, an educational not-for-profit dedicated to scientific inquiry and secular values. The Independent Investigations Group began with a meeting of 8 curious people of diverse backgrounds. Now it is over 40 members strong and in the process of expanding to other parts of the U.S. and beyond.

“The whole idea was to get people participating in their own quest for the truth about extraordinary claims,” Underdown said. “Being a part of an investigation is much more powerful than just reading about it or seeing it on TV.”

And participate they did. The IIG has looked into a wide array of paranormal and extraordinary claims that include ghost sightings, telekinesis (moving objects with one’s minds), telepathy (sending thoughts to another), remote viewing, mediums, psychics, UFOs, medical dowsing, faith healing, and much more.

IIG investigations have been feature articles in Skeptical Inquirer magazine, the L.A. Weekly and have figured into dozens of appearances on TV, radio, print, and podcasts.

The upcoming celebration will also feature an awards ceremony that will honor those in the media who make positive contributions to science and skepticism. This year, the group will recognize two TV shows that have positively portrayed the spirit of inquiry. The Mentalist and Eureka will each be given awards for their work in 2009. Also, skeptical giant Martin Gardner will also be honored posthumously for his life work in print. Gardner wrote the Mathematical Games column in Scientific American from 1956 to 1981, the Notes of a Fringe-Watcher column in Skeptical Inquirer from 1983 to 2002, and published over 70 books.

Interview with Animal Communicator and Author Karen Anderson

Annette: I know this is a general question Karen, but what kinds of things do you think our pets wish we understood about them?

Karen Anderson: First and foremost that they have needs that may be different than our needs.  We sometimes forget they are animals and have a need for being the dog or cat or horse that they are.  We tend to ‘humanize’ them and don’t give their biological, physical or emotional needs priority. I run into a few clients who make sure they are meeting their animal’s requirements but most of us have a long way to go in this area. As much as we like to think of them as our babies we need to remember that they have animal needs too.  Boredom is the number one source of behavior problems.  Make sure you provide good physical and mental stimulation and you will have a harmonious animal family. Brain challenges such as putting part of your dog’s daily ration of kibble in a treat ball. They have to roll it around to get their food.  If you have indoor cats then you are their entertainment center. Make sure you are providing them with something fun, interesting and different.  Don’t leave the same old stuff out.  Cats get bored in about 5 minutes. Rotate empty boxes, bags with no handles or empty cartons for them and take some away to be reintroduced later.  Be creative, most cats are happy with the lid from the hairspray bottle or a ball made out of foil.
